About Gary
Gary Davis is the creator and producer of People Powering Change, and the owner of SeaGary Media & Communications in Seattle. The podcast combines his passion for storytelling and advocacy for volunteerism, which holds together so much of what is good and needed in our society, but is often overlooked and underreported.
For 12 years Gary led Companis, a nonprofit that places volunteers in long-term service commitments with social welfare and social justice nonprofits throughout the greater Seattle/Everett area in Washington State. His work with Companis began as a volunteer in placements with programs that serve unhoused families with children, and food security.
Gary brings 40+ years of storytelling experience to this work. A native of Seattle, he is an award-winning radio journalist (PRNDI, SPJ, and AP) with public radio stations KNKX-FM and KUOW-FM. During his radio reporting and hosting years, his feature and breaking news reports were heard on NPR newsmagazine programs. Gary also worked for Radio Deutsche Welle, where he co-produced and co-hosted the weekly European newsmagazine Across The Atlantic from Cologne, Germany. He also the co-founder and producer of the public affairs television program Northwest Week, which aired on KBTC/PBS Tacoma.
Gary lives in Seattle with his husband Rod Shutt, and their two cats Noel and Nick.
